MATLAB® (The Mathworks) is a programming language and interactive environment originally designed to perform numerical mathematics. Although clearly slower than the languages traditionally used for this purpose, such as FORTRAN or C/C++, the interactive environment and the very convenient plotting capabilities make it highly useful for a broad range of computational tasks.
